Saint Andrew’s Church welcomes entire Kildwick school community for Easter Eggstravaganza |
||||
Saint Andrew’s Church, Kildwick was buzzing with activity on the Monday of Holy Week as the church community hosted the children, staff, parents, siblings and grandparents of Kildwick School. “We had a fabulous time at the church.” said Class 4 pupil Madison. “We learnt the Easter Story through drama and then went in to various craft activities such as making Jesus’ tomb; decorating Easter crosses and colouring stain glass windows.” continued below......
Her classmate Katherine agreed. “Members of the Church helped us with all the activities and served delicious hot cross buns and juice!” she added, “As we were going back to school we were all given a plastic egg containing a stone, a rubber cross, a sticker and a chocolate egg to remind us of the Easter story and our fabulous morning at St. Andrew’s church.” “Monday morning was such a joyful occasion.” said church member Sandie Walton who helped with the morning. “It was lovely to see the children watching and listening to the drama attentively. I thoroughly enjoyed helping the children making the crafts as they were so enthusiastic and helpful to each other.” The children also impressed church members Sue and Rosie Hargreaves, “The children were a delight to work with and it was wonderful to see how much pleasure they received from enjoying the simple things that we shared together.” said Rosie. Sue added, “It was a great way of bridging the generation gap as everyone had fun regardless of age and the Easter story was proclaimed with joy and lived out in love.” Saint Andrew’s vicar, the Reverend Robin Figg said, “The Church and school work closely together and this was a wonderful chance to get together, remember God’s extravagant love for us through retelling the Easter story, have a lot of fun and eating several hot cross buns!” The morning spilled out into the Parish Rooms as there was insufficient space amongst the pews for all the craft activities. “We needed more space” said organiser Elizabeth Figg, “and for the younger children to have hand washing facilities as their activities were slightly messy!” This caused a few logistical problems, “Coordinating everyone coming together again in church for singing and refreshments was …a challenge, shall we say!” laughed Elizabeth, “But the morning was a joy thanks to the enthusiasm of the children and adults who came and to all those who prepared the crafts and encouraged the craft leaders in the build-up to it.” Head teacher Mr Alan Robertshaw agreed, “I’d like to say a huge, “Thank you” to everyone who was involved in organising Monday. It was excellent and I know everyone enjoyed it especially the children.”
